How does counseling work?

In individual counseling, clients meet one-on-one with a counselor to work on overcoming challenges and achieving goals that are important to them. Vitality also offers group, couples, and counseling that is uniquely tailored to children and adolescents

The Process

Step 1: Assessment

In the first session, the counselor will listen to your story and present concerns before providing some initial recommendations.

Step 2: Treatment Plan

In the second session, the counselor and client will work collaboratively to identify goals and create a plan for treatment.

Step 3: Building Trust

In the sessions that follow, counselor will work to create a safe, warm space where the client is able to work on his or her treatment goals.

Step 4: Treatment

The counselor will use interventions that help the client to move forward. The type of interventions used vary based on client traits and needs, but typically involve skill-building, process oriented work and cognitive-behavioral work.

Step 5: Evaluation of Progress

Counselor and client will evaluate progress throughout treatment and make adjustments as necessary.

Step 6: Discharge

Determine together when the client is ready for discharge or transition to another form of treatment.

Where is counseling provided?

Sessions are typically provided out of our conveniently located Barrington office. On select days, we do see clients out of the Algonquin office as well. Many clients choose to take advantage of our Walk-and-Talk therapy option, particularly in the summer time. We offer in-home or off-site counseling in rare cases when it is ideal for both therapist and client. Contact us to determine if you are a good fit for alternative therapy options.

How long are counseling sessions?

Most individual counseling sessions last 50 minutes, but the assessment may take a full hour.

How much do counseling sessions cost? Do you accept insurance?

Counseling is a financial investment. Our sessions are typically $160 for the initial assessment and $130 for subsequent sessions. We do offer sliding scale fees for families who need it. We are currently in network with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois PPO, Blue Choice Network, Optum (formerly United), and Cigna PPO/EAP. We accept out of network insurance as well. We are happy to verify your benefits for you. Call us with your insurance policy number and group number and we will let you know what the cost of therapy will be for you.
